(13,590 posts)Is there a point where we have to decide we are going to live without joining up with this depraved manifestation of human culture? I know there is a good argument for knowing what is going on in the culture. But that's different from avidly following every expression of the culture in its deeply degraded form.
As I go about the actual world, I usually encounter human beings with at least some minescule amount of perception and empathy, people who seem to be living in essentially the same world I am living in, where we are all in one boat, and don't actively wish each other harm, even though we are often not alike in any observable way, and may not like each other very much.
When I follow the world of electronic culture, I experience a world of deep and intense hatred, of simply pathological lust for the most perverted destruction of others (especially women). I think of it as blood lust or death cult, with an essential woman-hating current. I don't know where this is coming from, other than the most obvious source, human self-hatred. It's easy to just give up on the very idea of humanity when encountering this and realizing that it's not only tolerated but encouraged by the dominant societal media.
The only thing I can think of is to try to live in the actual world, where people don't actually want to dismember and kill each other, even though they may find life difficult and have a hard time getting along.
Against the electronic backdrop, it gets hard and harder not to give up.
