In reply to the discussion: HOW did a generation of young men's brains get f-ed up enough to produce this bigotry about Jolie? [View all]Contrary1
(12,629 posts)I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 1997. I didn't have much choice with the first surgery. The doctor told us that there would not be much left after getting clean margins.
The second go-around came three years later. I was growing weary of the various lumps, bumps, and scares. I listened to that little voice. I asked for a prophylactic (preventative) mastectomy.
The pathology reports indicated that I had made the right decision. Several benign growths, along with two areas of "pre-cancer".
My husband said, and I remember his exact words..."I would rather spend the rest of my life with my best friend, than with two breasts." We're going on 41 years.
I belong to an online group of women who have fought, or are still fighting the aftermath of breast cancer. Several of these ladies had husbands or lovers who "couldn't cope".
Bullshit.
Shame on any "man" who would leave or cheat because of this. They weren't worth having anyway.
