"I am not at all close to the ideas of (Jose Maria) Aznar, but former PM Aznar was elected by the Spanish people, (and from that point of view) I demand respect (for him) for one reason... forms shape the being of things and one can strongly disagree about anything while keeping respect for other persons. This is the principle one must follow in order to be respected at a later time."
The context was a dialogue between current heads of state regarding a former head of state (Aznar) who was, as Chavez noted, disrespectful, a Fascist and complicit in many crimes. And the heads of state of the various Latin American countries loudly applauded Zapatero's statements even though they knew what Chavez said about Aznar was true.
