Under federal law, distilling is punishable by 5 years imprisonment, whether or not the liquor is intended for sale. The only reason the government gives a damn is to get their tax dollars. If you believe it's for public safety, that's your right.

Distilling should be legal for personal consumption, like beer and wine.
