22. Why does a private, for profit company have that kind of power in the first place?

Secret, copyrighted, proprietary software on voting machines? That is criminal in itself.

Oh, and back to the subject of OP... Why were their no long prison sentences? The fine was pocked change, not even enough for lunch.
