(149,690 posts)The commentary and discussions on DU represent our opinions. In most cases, those opinions are very worthwhile and worthy of being widely disseminated. Many people post here with the expectation that what is posted here is seen by a wider audience than just DU. If DU used a robots.txt file to block Google from putting DU threads in their database, DU would be useless as a venue for discussing political issues and spreading those discussions.
Part of the reason that DU has any influence at all is that it's a public forum. My OP is just there to remind people that they are writing in a public place. Even if they use screen names that are actually anonymous, what they write is attached to those screen names, and screen names are generally less anonymous than people think they are.
