3. Jumbo created by Barnum remembered at Tufts

Jumbo was a real elephant, who died tragically when when struck by a train whilst saving a baby elephant during a circus unloading.

The name Jumbo was just made up by PT Barnum, because Jumbo was a big African elephant, and Barnum thought the name sounded "African" and exotic. Ever since we have had "jumbo"-sized.

Jumbo is the mascot of Tufts University. (Go,Pachyderms,go.) Jumbo was preserved at Barnum Hall at Tufts, but, sadly, there was a fire and her remains burned 15 yrs ago.
