(55,745 posts)I saw reference to the new film and I thought of Mr. Moldea's work documenting how Reagan played a central role in getting MCA the exemption that made it a player in both representing talent and producing programming at the dawn of the television age. As an old reporter, it bothers me that Mr. Moldea did not get credit in the new article from the Daily Mail. I hope Mr. Moldea appears in the film as a main source for putting the story together.
What really stood out for me at the time, thanks to researching this thread I now remember, is how Reagan played the role of the corrupt union head stooge needed by the big money boys to get the talent in line for proper fleecing. More importantly, Reagan helping Tinseltown and the glamorous congressional investigators to go after the communist menace diverted attention from the Mob's influence in Hollywood.
And to think some people believe television is harmless.
