Re: Guns - Take The Bad With The Good [View all]

As the Joker said, "If you want to make an Omelette, you have to break a few eggs."

It's time to just accept things as they are in 2014 America. The many worthy uses of guns carry with them a few other uses which are less favorable. Those who LOVE their guns, are not going to give them up. That would mean not being able to hunt and kill animals. It would mean not having a gun on the nightstand, standing ready to blast away at the slightest noise during the night. Guys like Oscar Pistorius would be lost without that ability. I'm sure there are lots of other uses for a gun, but not being a gun-nut, I am unfamiliar with them.

Now with this G-d Given 2nd Amendment right that the NRA members are willing to defend to the death, there will be instances which happen from time to time, where innocent people die

There will be the accidental shootings where a 5 year old shoots and kills their younger/older sibling by accident. There will be the argument between family members, such as the one nearby me in Mission Viejo, CA, where a 21 year old son argues with his parents, then proceeds to shoot them and his sister, followed by himself, in the middle of the night.

And there will be the occasional mass killing. Your Newtowns, Fort Hoods, Isla Vistas, "Meet Your Congressperson", VA Techs, etc. These are somewhat rare though, only happening once ever few weeks/months, and while they are newsworthy now, in a few years they will be so common as to warrant much less coverage than they do today.

Let's face it. If Columbine, VA Tech, Gabby Giffords, Isla Vista, Etc., Etc., have not made an impact on changing things, nothing will. And has ANYTHING changed? Absolutely not. In fact, these events have actually increased gun sales, and further emboldened the NRA and it's members.

Because every person with a gun is a good guy. It's only the random occasion where a gun kills someone innocent, or by mistake. And their lives certainly do not trump my G-d given right to own a firearm, and have the ability to blow people or animals away at will. Although not being a gun owner in my 48 years, I guess I've missed out on that hobby.
