is supposed to keep companies in line and result in better products, services and prices for the consumer. I remember a time when that was true, or mostly true.

It's not true anymore. It means cheap burgers for us that are the result of starvation wages for others. It has devolved into the restoration of monopolies like Exxon/Mobile. To Walmart, which convinces manufacturers that what the lose by lowering their prices and quality they will make up in volume (yeah, that works).

At least in the midst of this could pretend to have some respect for the dead and fighters for open government.

Urgh.
