In 1979, Three Mile Island had a meltdown.
In 1981, AIDS 'epidemic' appeared in the U.S. (though it had been in other areas for decades prior)
2 years later.
In 2011, Fukushima had a meltdown.
In 2014, Ebola appeared in the U.S. (though it had been in other areas for decades prior)

It is reasonably well known that radiation exposure results in loss of immune function, as well as accelerating the rate of genetic mutations in disease organisms. Feel free to search it out for yourself, but here's one result.
