30. i am familiar with Wolin's work and ideas though I haven't yet read

his entire book. Another factor that is at play is the notion of manufactured consent, as Chomsky and Edward Herman wrote about in 1986. The techniques have now been virtually perfected, and absolute control over the principal sources of news make sure no dissent is ever heard outside of a very narrow range of ever more rightwing options.

A bolt came to me last night that is directly related to the issues i discuss in the piece and I intend to write about it at some point - TPTB have now figured out a way to monetize stupidity and ignorance, which is a terrifying concept. Fascists of the past were interested solely in political power nd territorial expansion. The New Fascists are not content with that. They literally want all the money in the world. The monetization of stupidity works as follows - relentlessly propagandize the sheep-like, infinitely gullible populace in order to get a majority to vote for policies that continue to further impoverish them, policies which facilitate ann even greater transfer of wealth to the tenth-percenters. This, too, is something new.
