Does Free Republic represent a large slice of the republican party? [View all]

I skim freeperville from time to time to because I think it is representative of a deep sickness in the republican party and this country. Years ago, the conventional DU wisdom was that the denizens of said site were extreme outliers in the party. I think it's indicative of how far to the right the party has moved since the advent of the tea party. In fact, I think one could argue that the tea party has succeeded in a hostile takeover of the republican party.
