It is symptomatic of America's cultural malaise that everything is being taken personally these days. Criticize a policy, and it is immedately construed as a personal attack. Principles are confused with persons. Ideas and even facts have lost any foundation and are regarded as lifestyle choices with one opinion taken as "equal" to another, regardless of how that opinion is supported. Indeed, requesting one's support for an opinion is regarded as another form of personal attack. We see this on DU all the time. Quite sad, actually.
