(60,414 posts)was named to the Gore ticket. I never saw as much excitement for any election as for that one after he was named. This was in New Jersey.
In 2004, when he ran for President, I don't remember ANYONE speaking of not voting for him in the primary due to religion. (NJ's primary was too late for actually impacting the race. Lieberman never gained any traction. He opted not to contest Iowa and declared he came in tied three ways for third in NH -- even though the other two he was "tied" with had substantially more votes. He was fifth and, for all intents and purposes, his campaign was over -- the Lieberman wing of the Democratic party was almost non-existent. He then worked as a very lame counterproductive "surrogate" for the Democrats -- praising Bush's actions in Iraq.)
Not to mention, Sanders - unlike Lieberman - is not running as an AIPAC approved Jew -- he was the first Senator to say he was not going to hear Netanyahu.
