He advocated total divestment of wealth and luxury, arguing that rich men had poor souls. By stripping hteir wealth, they could strengthen their souls for the imminent judgement day.

he was sort of like Gandhi. Gandhi also supported divesting wealth to the poor, but NOT because Gandhi was in favor of wealth redistribution - because he saw money as bad for the soul, and total divestment as the only "cure."
