(1,958 posts)17. Some people are so self-centered that they feel
they can just leave their pets and believe that somebody will take care of them. I grew up in a rural area and people would drive out of town and abandon their dogs and cats. Both would frequently be hit and injured or killed by vehicles. Sometimes these animals would be cared for by those living in the area, sometimes the cats became barn cats, many died of starvation.

Sometimes they have to leave, and can't find a affordable place that takes pets.

Some people buy into the feral argument, I think. That cats, especially, can live without people.

Another thing: Idiots who get rid of a pet when the woman becomes pregnant or they have a baby...

Some people amazingly think the pets will do better than being sent to the animal shelter.
