In reply to the discussion: What are people thinking when they abandon pets? [View all]JustAnotherGen

But someone else's throw away (a hand fed and well handled painted back turtle) became our treasure in August 2011. He's entertaining, brings the Zen, and has recently discovered how to launch himself out of his tank.
That's one fast little turtle!
Anyway - it's sickening. You don't make an animal dependent on you then just toss it. You just don't.
We've reach out to our town and asked should we both die someone put Jack in the elementary school, library, or even in the old court house. Like - we made arrangements for him since he will probably out live us. For a TURTLE.
But some of us have brains that are wired that way and some don't - unfortunately.

Some people buy into the feral argument, I think. That cats, especially, can live without people.

Some people amazingly think the pets will do better than being sent to the animal shelter.
