(24,411 posts)I've never quite understood that. Why did PNAC (the neocon organization at the time) post their dastardly plan to dominate, militarily control and plunder the Middle East?
Their plans were laid out, for us to behold. They listed off the countries that they wanted, in order: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya.
They got Iraq, and they started to bang the war drum for Iran, but there were too many problems. Obama thwarted their efforts with the agreement Iran signed. No wonder the Republicans positioned diplomatic efforts as horrific acts of cowardice. Obama neutralized one of their main targets.
Another thing that has always bothered me. The neocons wrong Bill Clinton a letter in 1998, begging him to go to war against Iraq. The letter was signed by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and other assorted neocons who rose to power in the Bush Administration. So, in 2001, when Bush wanted his precious Iraq war, why did Hillary Clinton vote for it? I guess we could hold any politician's feet to the fire and ask why they would vote for an Iraq war. However, Hillary Clinton knew that this cast of neocons who were now in Bush's Administration, were the same neocons who asked her husband for war. She knew they'd been waiting for an opportune moment to strike and they had their moment now.
Why didn't Hillary ever hold up that letter on the Senate floor and say, "These people have wanted to get their claws into the Middle East for years and they asked my husband to go to war with Iraq when my husband was President. Maybe we need to examine their motives more closely and ask why the rush."
There was no such statement. She went along with it. The only answer is that she was in on it. 98 percent of them are in on it. Many Democrats try to stop this nonsense or at least impede their efforts. I salute those Democrats. Hillary isn't one of those Democrats, that is for sure.
Sad.
