(20,166 posts)that the "good ol' days" were always good here. For example, there were plenty of epic flame wars (most of which I can't even remember what sparked them now).
But by and large I personally felt like this place was a virtual haven for me during a very dark and terrible time. We did come together to celebrate victories and to commiserate during losses and tragic events (of which God knows the Bush years had more than their share). Those times still mean a lot to me as a result. As I said before, I didn't feel as isolated and alone as I did back in the '80s.
But DU was (and is) "virtual". I've met fellow DU'ers face-to-face at protests in DC, but mostly my experience has involved an exchange between me and what I read and see on a computer screen.
The difference now for me is that even that exchange is often not very gratifying anymore.
Still, I do sincerely like many members here and I do get a lot of good information here (despite the endless posts about polls), all of which keeps me coming back.
