It's related to an ongoing strike in the news, and it is new facts. It may not have the "a Verizon spokesperson said ..." that a media article would use, but I don't think 'reputable blogs' would necessarily have that either. Since it was picked up by news media, that shows it could be regarded as news.
When it's from a union, I'd have thought DU could have found room for it in LBN.
