24. My favorite holiday moment I thought I would get fired for...

I was working customer service and we were instructed to wish callers "happy holidays" at the end of the call.

One perfectly nice lady suddenly turned on me, "NO! It's not HOLIDAYS. It's CHRISTMAS. MERRY CHRISTMAS is what we say in this house!"

Without thinking, I replied "And in my house we're Jewish, so Happy Hanukkah, Ma'am. Thank you for shopping ____!" The response after a stunned silence was "Oh. (click)"

God will probably get me for this since I'm actually as goy as the day is long. I was terrified until I got a note from my auditor "We could have written you up for this, but every person we played the clip for couldn't stop laughing. L'chaim!"
