NEVER have been ashamed to BE an AMERICAN because I aspire to the highest ideals in our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, our Bill of Rights and the Rule of Law. They are what distinguish us from savages.

That said, I have been VERY ashamed of some US Presidents and of actions they have taken - purportedly on behalf of our nation. Of these, Trump is by far the worst of the worst.

I also believe that our Constitution regards some tweaking w/r/t, among others, voting day, clarification of the Second Amendment and clarification of civil rights and responsibilities, including those of women. But for this to happen in any meaningful way, we MUST elect Dem Reps, Senators, Governors and state legislatures!

We also need seriously to rethink our balance-of-power structures and perhaps move more towards a parliamentary system where multiple political parties have a voice. What we have now has been dysfunctional for years. President Obama literally performed miracles to make as much progress as he did. If Trump has shown us anything, it is how easily the system can be made powerless.
