In spite of the criticism the GOP levies about the ACA, it withstood anything and everything that the Repugs threw at it. I think history will judge it kindly once the kinks are ironed out of it. The Dems know what and where the problems lie and those problems are fixable. In spite of what the GOP has said over the past 6 months, the ACA was not thrown together in the middle of the night by one party like their plans appeared to be. The Dems sought a bipartisan effort in formulating their Plan. Obama and Congressional Dems consulted and reached out to all the Stake Holders including both Houses of Congress, the Medical Community, Insurance Companies, Governors, Mitt Romney and the people who helped design the Massachusetts Health Care Plan, the Heritage Foundation whose original idea was the basis for the ACA. After the GOP pretended to go along with the Plan and submitted hundreds of amendments which were fully debated, none of the GOP Lawmakers voted for final passage.
Also, the original proposals had each of the states setting up their own exchanges, which in the end, those states with GOP governor's refused to set up, making much more work for the Federal government than originally anticipated, and resulting in a less than enthusiastic launch of the websites. But once it was up and running and people were signing up for it, and people who hadn't been able to get healthcare previously were able to obtain it, to see they liked the ACA. But once the program was up and running it disclosed unforeseen and forseeable problems as they arose. But by now, passage of the ACA had caused the Democratic Party seats in Congress and the GOP was comfortable to sit by and watch little problems, left unchecked, so they would become big problems, and those big problems would ultimately be their ticket back to the Majority.
Over the next six years, as they voted to repeal the ACA, the Repugs put all their hopes on their Boy Wonderlic Ryan to draw their roadmap back to power via about 60 Congressional votes to "Repeal and Replace" the ACA when they didn't have the votes or a President to sign their Repeal and Replace votes into law. Once they had to submit their replacement plan, it was obvious that the GOP had no new ideas. All they had were old ideas, and bad ideas warmed over. It should be obvious by now that the GOP is only capable of tearing down, and devoid of the ability to build anything constructive.
So once again, Thank You President Obama for your Leadership and your daring decision to boldly go where no politician dared go before, and if the past is prologue, no Repubs since are willing to go. So once again, it will probably have to be the Dems and Dems only that are ready, willing, and able to roll up their sleeves and fix the problem.
