(5,240 posts)the working class then why did a majority of working class hispanics, african american and other working class minorities vote for Clinton? White males are not the only hard working people in this country. It seems like there was a lot of resentment behind the white vote. The Democratic platform contains a lot of support for minority interests but the core of the platform has always been support for working people no matter race, etc. It seems that a lot of white people don't understand how systemic and institutionalized racism and sexism have been, and that those issues need attention too(identity politics). Just because other issues are important to democrats doesn't mean that the increasing difficulties of the working class are being ingnored. I do think that concentrating on the needs of the working class would help everyone.....wages, healthcare, childcare, education. We just need to make sure everyone has access to those things.
