1. Was shot in Afghanistan under really shady circumstances (eg. a drunken brawl, an unauthorized "mission", etc), covered it up, and the incident at the park is exactly as he reports now.

or

2. Was not shot in Afghanistan, and attempted to use the park injury as a prop in his political campaign with a BS service story and was busted and is lying through his teeth (badly) to cover that up now.

Neither of the above is a good look, both are self-serving, and both show he can not be trusted.
