(149 posts)81. I saw that design in some "men's magazine" in like 1979
Either Playboy or Penthouse (can't recall). I was doing research for a middle-school project on "Cars of the Future" and that article showed up in a literature search - the cool librarians at South Alabama got me ILL photocopies and I relied on the info heavily (I didn't see the color versions for years).
It wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if Elon once saw that same article and instead of just doing a report, tried to make it happen without doing any use-case research etc.
