In reply to the discussion: Musk says SpaceX will decommission Dragon spacecraft after Trump threat [View all]BadgerMom
(3,229 posts)42. Sputnik was launched. America freaked out.
US engineers were recruited. Students were urged to become engineers. Telstar was launched. The space race was on and America and our leaders were dedicated to the idea that we would not be caught unprepared again. We got to the moon. And we were proud of that.
This tells me that we have the academics, the research universities and the money and the brains to do this. What I dont believe we have right now is the steady leadership in Congress or the White House.

Are SpaceX and Starlink costing Musk more than they are earning? If so it could just be an excuse to ditch them.
