In reply to the discussion: Former Trump lawyer claims he knows Epstein client list names: 'But I'm bound by confidentiality' [View all]Wiz Imp
(6,773 posts)19. That doesn't make him more believable. I'd argue it makes him less believable.
Dershowitz helped negotiate the plea deal for Epstein in 2008. This plea deal:
The new charges against Epstein placed intense pressure on Acosta, who as a federal prosecutor in Florida in 2007 negotiated a secret deal with lawyers for Epstein that allowed Epstein to avoid serious prison time, protected Epsteins co-conspirators and hid the existence of the agreement from dozens of alleged victims.
Earlier this year a federal judge ruled the deal illegal. But Acosta mounted an aggressive defense of the plea deal on Wednesday, arguing that the involvement of his office secured a greater penalty for Epstein than state officials otherwise would have managed.
Krischer continued: If Mr Acosta was truly concerned with the states case and felt he had to rescue the matter, he would have moved forward with the 53-page indictment his own office drafted. Instead, Mr Acosta brokered a secret plea deal that resulted in a Non-Prosecution Agreement in violation of the Crime Victims Rights Act.
His assertion also contradicted an investigation by the Miami Herald over the past two years, which documented unusual contacts between Acostas office and Epsteins defense, and quoted participants in the case as saying that Acostas office crumbled under pressure from Epsteins attorneys.

Dershowitz wasn't necessarily accused of doing anything illegal in the plea deal, but he KNEW it was illegal.

OP
Why would anyone believe anything Dershowitz says? He's as big a liar and as big of an asshole as Trump.

The List that even multiple people beyond the Trump DOJ had previously said doesn't exist?

I never assumed there was a "list" akin to the D.C. Madam's "little black book"

And even if he saw "it", he has every reason to lie about it and none to tell the truth.
