(192,508 posts)The world market was just fine with how steel was made. US steel manufacturing was, Im sure, at the highest capacity it could be at given demand. Its not like they are just sitting around. Making new steel plants will take some time and
a lot of steel.
Housing especially new housing is another. So their chatter is that the Fed needs to lower the prime because people cant afford to buy a house. At the same time Trump slaps a 35% tariff on Canadian goods. Unless theres an exception for lumber that drives up the cost of construction. Again, US lumber doesnt have equipment and crews just sitting around. Expanding production, Trump is opening up our land to be wiped out, will require a big investment in heavy equipment made with a lot of
steel.
