What you mention is certainly one.

I think they fail to understand that:

1.) Twenty years ago was 1994. Think about where we were then. Did we know then what kids would need to know now? In many ways no. Much has changed. Much change is coming. We place far too much emphasis on current employment skills and test taking, and far too little time on the much more difficult but rewarding general critical thinking skills that they will need, for sure, especially to be effective citizens of a real democracy.

2.) Information is not knowledge, and thinking is more than stringing words together, there is art in everything we do.

3.) And as you point out, they totally fail to grasp the fact that we are dynamic beings, children are not small adults.
