with ASD. It is incorporating all kinds of things that were labeled something else decades ago; for example, many children who would have been called MR or MMH are given the ASD diagnosis while others are called "intellectually disabled," which is more accurate. So-called "Asperger" syndrome was a separate diagnosis until 2013 and incorporated as part of the autism spectrum disorder.

Since the definition of what constitutes ASD has changed and been broadened, of course there are going to be a lot more kids diagnosed as having it.

I work with special education students, and a lot of the kids I work with have been diagnosed as being ASD (with many having other diagnoses).
