FAIR WARNING: If you are offended by images or discussion of "fiddly bits," DO NOT CLICK on the links in this thread, most particularly the YOUTUBE one below. I can't make it much clearer than that.
Well, apparently I CAN make it clearer than that-- we have one DUer who doesn't know what "fiddly bits" are--so...to be brutally clear, they are GENITALIA. If you don't like seeing OLD, wrinkly genitals, do NOT click on the links in this thread. If you're unclear what "genitals" are, use Google. Oh, and if you work in a place where you're allowed to sit at your computer and watch YOUTUBES all day, this is "NSFW" as well! So don't click on those links if you will get in trouble for looking at old genitals! [/font]
That said, I watched this Oliver episode in mixed company including people who were closer to 100 than 50, and they laughed their asses off. In fact, I was asked to rewind the Mitch McConnell commercial so they could watch it again.

Former The Daily Show correspondent and fill-in host John Oliver has been spreading his wings for three weeks now on HBOs Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and in his third outing, offered an example of the benefits of pay TV. In a bit demonstrating the logical extension of todays negative political ads, Oliver took advantage of HBOs nudity standards by producing a mock attack ad against old, white, wrinkled dick Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that hits the nail right on the head.
If you liked John Olivers turn as The Daily Shows fill-in host, then Last Week Tonight is right up your alley, but Olivers attempt to achieve balance here may give pause to some. Oliver also produced a mock ad against McConnells opponent, which features Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes (D-KY) slaughtering coal miners with a chainsaw. There isnt even remote equivalence between Democrats and Republicans campaign ads, but on the other hand, neither is there equivalence in the mock ads that Oliver produced.
One look at the McConnell ad and its pretty obvious whose side Oliver is on. No one will come away from this bit thinking that Allison Lundergan Grimes is going to slaughter coal miners, but the Mitch McConnell spot has Richter-scale resonance. Spoiler alert: the ad features an actual old, white, wrinkled dick:

*****Youtube link removed because those humorless jerks took the video down--the Daily Motion link above has the video, intact (as it were)******
....If this seems a bit over-the-top (as well as below the belt), consider the context in which this ad must stand out. Oliver prefaced the bit by running down some other recent batshit campaign ads, including Joni Ernsts threat to castrate fellow lawmakers in DC, tea party senate candidate Bob Quasts jokey ode to blowing the balls off of whoever raped and murdered his sister, Republican congressional candidate John Stones (R-GA) threat to go cannon-ballistic in the House if need be, and, for some reason, a 2012 campaign ad by Rep. John Barrow (D-GA) that was, itself, the basis for a recent attack ad by gun control advocates.....
I must say, I find it amusing that the article essentially states that it is obvious that the Lundergran Grimes bit is parody, but then whines in a suggestion that it is "unfair" that the parody piece about McConnell "resonates." Maybe if the....errrrr.... shoe, or whatever, didn't fit quite so well, McConnell wouldn't be expected to wear it...?
Like I said...FAIR WARNING!!!!!
And if you didn't see the most recent Oliver episode, I recommend it!
