(18,837 posts)I was reading something last night about Stevie Nicks recalling the last time she performed with Tom, which was "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" at Hyde Park. She made an interesting observation about how he had the gift of writing songs that explored the many nuances of relationships while fronting a band that was basically a "gang"...
And if you've read anything about these guys, they were most certainly that.
The Olympic show was not a "Breakdown->Free Fallin'->American Girl" greatest hits set. I'm sure those shows were extremely satisfying for fans who attended them, but this was...as you very astutely put it...a fans set list. It's where Tom and the boys went deep and got mean and if it is still available on DVD, I would highly recommend getting a copy of it.
The Stones actually DID a relatively recent Sticky Fingers show in Los Angeles...the album in its entirety, with the running order of the songs changed.
It was very, very good...but the original album was Mick Taylor's moment in the sun, and Ron Wood is never going to be Mick Taylor. If you can get past that, you may find it worth a listen.
