I'm a huge fan of women in general, but I am most especially a fan of women musicians. [View all]
I feel that they usually make less predictable choices in how they present their musical vision, and I prefer a woman's voice in most cases as well.
Over the decade plus I've been posting here in DU MA, I've probably listed the female artists who are currently in my headphones 3 or 4 times.
This is another of those lists.
Don't get me wrong, I still listen to Heart, Joan Armatrading, Janis, Aretha, Gillian Welch, Erykah and all the others that I've profiled in the past - Almost no one falls off my play list, it just keeps growing.
But there are so many great performers that deserve more attention that I feel compelled to keep doing these...
I've posted a few threads about Jackie Venson recently, because I am charmed by this women's talent. She's solid in all 3 things I most value in a performer - Song writing, singing, and playing an instrument

Carolyn Wonderland is an absolute beast. She was the last lead guitarist for the Bluesbreakers. That band has been an ongoing concern for 50+ years and in all that time, John Mayall has never hired a mediocre guitarist.

ZZ Ward - She is mixing modern pop music textures with straight blues themes. A mix of Blue-Eyed Soul and 21st century rock with idiosyncratic vocal phrasing
