YouTube channel I could find that had posted it - a channel posting videos of British #1 hits - had absolutely no info on it. This appearance had caught my attention because Liam and Noel were dressed up more than usual. Finally used Setlist.fm (which logs a lot of concerts but also misses some) to go through their 2002 shows and found the 1-song setlist for Japan's MTV Video Music Awards on May 24, 2002, and a fan site for listing their concerts had screen shots confirming it was that show. The Chemical Brothers, Oasis and Backstreet Boys were among the winners at the first MTV Video Music Awards Japan.
The Chemicals took the Best Dance Act award and Backstreet Boys were named Best Group.
Oasis took the Best Live Performance award after headlining the first night of last year's Fuji Rock Festival.
They performed at the awards in Tokyo, alongside artists including Sheryl Crow, Jay-Z, Nickelback and Boyz II Men.
