"Tennessee state Rep. David has been placed on a ventilator while battling the effects of COVID-19, a concerning outcome he previously cautioned was looming, barring a "miracle."

The Waynesboro Republican, who in the last week has repeatedly posted on Facebook asking friends for prayers, was hospitalized Dec. 5 with pneumonia after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Family and friends of Byrd on Monday night and Tuesday morning posted on Facebook that he was now on a ventilator.

Byrd and Carter in June voted in support of a House resolution stating that "mainstream media has sensationalized the reporting on COVID-19 in the service of political agendas."
