my mother, who grew up in the Cumberland Gap area and was known for few, if any, profane words, had quite the diatribe about vance's "hillbilly ellegy and his "mammaw". Her rarely used profanity was on full display after reading his "book". I've not finished it (mom died a couple of years ago) but I saw Hollywood's "version" - about made me sick. If any single behavior was from a minority old vance and his party would be squealing like Ned Beatty in Deliverance. But white folks can get away with that type of behavior. And since old vancy-boy married a furener. One who teleworks for a SF company. What a crock of shit.
