Download.com: how to use it and not get crappy adware in your downloads [View all]

Step One: Go to http://download.cnet.com/windows/

Step Two: Navigate the site to find the file you want.

I'll use Maxthon web browser for an example.

You click "Save", of course, to save the download manager file to your Desktop.

Step Three: You click the download manager file

Step Four: Click "Next Step"

Step Five: Ok, things get a tad tricky now. Look very closely at this screen below

IT WANTS YOU TO INSTALL SEARCH PROTECT FOR CONDUIT. See it ? Unless you really want that adware, click the GRAY "Decline" button. Tricky tricky.

Step Six: Now look very closely at every screen you get after you click the first Decline. They ALL want you to install some adware. Click the GRAY Decline buttons.

EVENTUALLY....you get to a very straightforward screen that allows you to download ONLY the Maxthon file.

Once you download ONLY the Maxthon file, find it on your Desktop and click it to install it.

CONGRATS ! You have now installed ONLY the Maxthon web browser and NO adware.

The key with ALL downloads is to read read read carefully. Almost always that's how you get adware and other crapware.

Any questions ? Good luck.

Steve
