12. There was a strip club that opened in Dubuque a few years ago..

And the Dubuque government and others in the community reacted like the city was being invaded by heathens. It's not something that I personally would visit but I figured meh, just let it be. And their reasons for opposing the strip club were the same - it could attract the wrong crowd, damage the reputation, and so on.

So the city set to work amending ordinances concerning adult businesses. The owners sued the city on Constitutional grounds before agreeing to settle and close the business. I think it did cause some controversy in the council afterwards about people not being comfortable about the manner in which the city got the business owners to close down the business and that the city government is a little too hostile towards those who don't meet with what the city council idea of good businesses.
