2. Seems shocking and ironic

But it happens way more than we think.

Know how I know that? Because I used to have a job helping dissertation writers set up their studies. I did this for years and never saw any change in what seems to be a natural human tendency to make your work more significant than what the data shows.

They intellectually knew it was a possibility their research might reveal nothing new, but actually putting in the time and effort to end up there was damn difficult.
