my entire adult life. And I'm now 65.
I've also been reading lots of stuff over the years that says basically: Get enough sleep and you'll be better off.
In my youth I was famous for being able to sleep 10, 12, even 14 hours straight.
Here's my favorite sleep story: First trip to London, I was about 21. Overnight flight, arrived in the morning, got to the hotel, then to my room at noon. I was pretty tired, so I decided I should nap for a bit, then explore the city. So I set the alarm clock that was conveniently in the room for 3pm, figuring three hours should do it.
Apparently the alarm didn't go off, because when I rolled over and looked at the clock, it was midnight. Damn! Lost the entire day! So I got up, took a bath, read a little. When I went back to bed at 3am, I figured the alarm clock didn't work, and there was really no point in asking the front desk for a wake-up call, because surely I'd wake up at a reasonable time. I don't think I even put a Do Not Disturb Sign on my doorknob.
When I next rolled over and looked at the clock, it was 3pm. Holy crap! I slept a full 24 hours! But I can tell you I don't think I've ever felt so rested in my entire life.
I am honestly convinced that among the reasons I am in such amazing good health, and that I look about ten years younger than my actual age, is that most of my life I have gotten plenty of sleep. It really does make a difference.
