I have this pet theory that the reason for the words “To Thine Own Self Be True” on recovery coins is because a relapse usually is what happens after we believe our own lies to ourselves.

That being the case, I’d probably put a high priority on identifying what lies I had been telling myself, and refuting them completely so I wouldn’t fall for the same BS in the future.

Of course there’s no guarantee I wouldn’t come up with some new lies, but at least maybe I’d be more mindful of the fact that they might also be BS.
