My SiL's sister went to a dentist for a filling in a molar. Came out with pain that increased to the point in a week sleep was impossible. the dentist was truly non sympathetic and accused her of looking for narcotics. After close to a month she got x-rays from another Dentist. The first dentist had drilled through her tooth and into he jawbone and put filling all the way down into the bone and didn't pick that up when she had gone back to him to figure out her pain.

There was a lawsuit, and a lot of work to fix the problem.

If you have pain, there is a reason. Meanwhile, I'd take a hard look at my "partner" and decide if there is any value in his being there.
