I've heard the best way to treat things like anxiety and phobias is direct exposure to that which is the source of your irrational fear.

When I was in college I had a lot of anxiety about public speaking, but I had to do it or else I would not have graduated. So I was forced to jump right into my fear. And let me tell you, it was damn scary to me at first. But with time and repeated exposure I became more confident and the fear subsided.
