(247,642 posts)12. I've been there, too, my friend. It's been over 2 years for me, but I still hurt when I think of my pup
My good friend gave me a cat (her daughter rescues cats) and he couldn't be sweeter or more affectionate, but I often call him by my dog's name. And of the dogs in my life, he's only one of two that I got as a puppy, the other pup my Dad got us when I was 11, in between I found dogs from rescue and I loved each one, often I had two. My Jack was 16 and this is the longest I've been without a dog in my life. And I remember hearing that it's hardest to lose a pet since they're always with you. So I understand, my friend.

I can certainly relate to it being difficult without our planetary neighbors.

Mourning a loved animal is so very, very hard. Give yourself as much time as you need.

The more you loved your dog and the more your dog loved you the more it will hurt.

I understand how you feel. Still mourning my GSD who disappeared when I was 11.
