In reply to the discussion: Tinkerbell has lost her struggle. RIP Tinkerbell. [View all]eppur_se_muova
(39,710 posts)Ultimately, it seems it was just her time. The vet took one look at her -- it was the very earliest appt I could get -- and said it was time to put her sleep. But we had to make an appt for later in the day for that. Before that time came, she had died a natural death in her mother's lap.
Everything we tried seemed to work, at least a little bit, at first, but then it didn't. I just wish we could have brought her in before New Year's -- when she kept dropping down almost on her face every time she tried to drink, whether from the sink or a bowl, I think it was obvious that she was not going to make it much longer, but she kept trying to eat and drink and even wandered around the house up to a few days before her death. We just kept grasping at false hope, and fighting the calendar. In the end, the holidays helped cause us to run out of time to prevent her final suffering.
We had her mortal remains cremated today. We will have a small keepsake "urn" -- really a walnut box with her name and photo -- to remember her by. RIP, sweet baby.
