3. My parents loved him. I can remember

standing in front of our old tv listening to him talk about nuclear disarmament and the dangers of above ground testing.

They took me to Logan Airport to see him
when he spoke in Boston and I was small enough to be on Dad's shoulders. I saw the homburg hat that I recognized from the Life magazine cover. Then we had to get quickly out of there as the Mass. State Troopers were doing a flying wedge move to clear the tarmac.
As a young child Adlai and Abraham Lincoln were my two American mythopolitical heroes. A bit later on, FDR
and Eleanor moved in with them, mostly due to hearing mum and Dad recount the Roosevelt litany.

Years later I was working at a camp in Maine and heard about his death on a London street.
A heart attack the radio voice said....

All the way with Adlai from a time long ago.
