In reply to the discussion: Can you tell me your experience with cataract surgery? [View all]marybourg
(13,572 posts)4. My experience, like that of almost everyone I know, was excellent.
My surgeon used sedation, and I was very comfortable both during and after the surgery. The worst part was having to put eye drops in several times a day for several weeks. I was able to drive the next day.
I chose the regular lenses that Medicare pays for, on the advice of my optometrist. I also chose to need reading glasses rather than distance glasses, and chose to have glasses with progressive lenses that have the reading prescription on the bottom and just a little astigmatism correction on the top, since I dont want to have to deal with reading glasses everywhere but where I am.

Well, the astigmatism is not bad enough to keep me from driving without glasses.

My Dad got it done when he was 85. Sailed through it and was very happy with the results.

Nowadays, the risks are quite low. If doc said 10%, I bet most of that is post op irritation,

Odds are you won't have any problems. Not sure but yes, issues can be dealt with.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes in 2017. All went well and continues to go well. Not one issue.

The eye doctor / surgeon makes a difference. Be willing to change to get the best.

I've been putting it off, but a friend who had it in December says I'm worrying needlessly.
