In reply to the discussion: Can you tell me your experience with cataract surgery? [View all]SarahD
(1,732 posts)19. A little complicated.
I had both eyes done and it went very well. Medicare paid for most of it, but I had to pay extra for the correction. Most private insurance will not pay for the correction. Anyway, getting rid of the cataracts is great, really reduces haze and night glare. It's nice to go without glasses when driving, walking, cycling etc but I can't read without "cheaters."

Well, the astigmatism is not bad enough to keep me from driving without glasses.

My Dad got it done when he was 85. Sailed through it and was very happy with the results.

Nowadays, the risks are quite low. If doc said 10%, I bet most of that is post op irritation,

Odds are you won't have any problems. Not sure but yes, issues can be dealt with.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes in 2017. All went well and continues to go well. Not one issue.

The eye doctor / surgeon makes a difference. Be willing to change to get the best.

I've been putting it off, but a friend who had it in December says I'm worrying needlessly.
